Introduction
I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018 as my photo catalogue and image editor. Would I recommend it? Well, I wouldn’t not recommend it. I have tried a couple of other image catalogue applications and they all come up short against Photoshop. Either the number of images that the app can realistically work with is too small, or catalogue mechanism is too inflexible, or the editing is not as comprehensive, or the range of supported images types is not as comprehensive.
That said, there are issues with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018. First, it is expensive. Second, it is slow, or can be. I am constanly gettiing the Windows 10 message ‘ Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018 has stopped responding, do you want to cancel the App or wait for it to respond.’. Normally if you wait it does come back, but it annoying.
The other issue is the time it can take for an image to be fully rendered. I always work with RAW, which makes for large image files, and, I suspect, less than optimal processing time. Even taking these factors into account, there are times when it can take upwards of 30 secs for an image to be fully rendered. Not every time by a long way. Often an image will render almost instantaneously, but a significant number of times it can take, as I said, upwards of 30 secs. Indeed that inconsistency actually makes it more annoying, because you do not know whether an image is blurry because the focus is wrong, or because it hasn’t yet fully rendered.
That said one the features of Photoshop that I really do like is the RAW editor. The ability to easily adjust exposure, contrast, white and black limits whilst still retaining RAW is brilliant.
